nicholasDr. Nicholas Manning

Dr. Nicholas Manning was born and raised in Rockhampton, Central Queensland. His father and grandparents originated from Barcaldine and Longreach, whilst Nick’s mother was born in the UK. Nick studied Dentistry at the University of Queensland, graduating in 1996. He returned to CQ, working and enjoying life as a General Dentist in Yeppoon, then later in Emerald, with a couple of short working stints in London between 1997-2000.

Nick enjoyed living in the UK and when the opportunity arose to attend The University of Manchester and begin post-graduate Orthodontic training in 2000, it was an easy decision to return. Nick feels fortunate to have been trained by a number of world leaders in Orthodontics during his time in Manchester and was delighted to receive two international prize awards for his Orthodontic research. The first award was received in 2005 at the Paris World Federation of Orthodontics International Congress. The second accolade, the Federation of European Orthodontists Award, was presented in 2007 for the best published paper in a European Orthodontic Journal.

After completing Orthodontic training, Nick returned to Rockhampton to join the practice started by his father Michael in 1973. Michael was one of the Orthodontic pioneers in regional Queensland and has been a wonderful mentor and role model. Nick feels it is a unique and very special experience to be working as an Orthodontist in the same practice that he had his braces fitted, a little over 30 years ago.

Nick, like Michael throughout his career, remains at the forefront of Orthodontics by regularly attending Orthodontic continuing-education courses. This results in the ability to present patients with a range of different treatment options, tailored to provide the best outcome to suit their individual needs. Nick and his team are passionate about achieving results that combine a great smile with healthy teeth for life.

Nick married Nadene (Casino, NSW origin) and convinced her to follow him to the great city of Rockhampton in 2004. They have four children (Paddy, Lachy, Finlay and Sean), who are constantly on the go! Lucky Nick enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle, spending his spare time cycling, running, playing tennis and touch football and occasionally getting away with the family for snow skiing holidays. Nick and his family are involved in a number of local sporting clubs, including surf lifesaving, touch football, soccer and rugby union.

Dr. Manning graduated in Dentistry from the University of Queensland in December 1965, and assisted lecturing to dental students during 1966. Dr. Manning travelled to the United Kingdom for the next three years and more study resulted in a postgraduate MSc degree from the University of London.

On return to Australia, Dr. Manning became involved in Orthodontics and completed the MDSc degree in Orthodontics from the University of Sydney in 1971.

The next two years resulted in more study and further experiences in Orthodontics at the Royal Melbourne Dental School. This period of study resulted in a fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgery.

In September 1973, Jacki and Dr. Manning were married and, following a short intensive course of study in California, moved from Melbourne to Rockhampton. For the first six months, Orthodontics was practiced in a spare room in Ray Harvey’s Surgery, where Bolsover Dental is now located. After six months, the next move was to the lower end of East Street and in 1976, the final move to the current site on Fitzroy Street. In 1994, the branch office in Emerald was completed.

Jacki and Dr. Manning were delighted when their son, Nicholas, could join the practice during 2004 which saw improvements and exciting changes put into place then and continuing to this day.

As of September 2017, Dr. Manning remains involved in the practice on a part-time basis and to quote his sentiments “I feel privileged and blessed to still be involved in Nick’s practice and it is truly a thrill to catch up with parents (who I previously treated and) whose children are now being treated by Nick”.
