Dr. Michael Manning
Dr. Manning graduated in Dentistry from the University of Queensland in December 1965 and assisted lecturing to dental students during 1966. Travel to the United Kingdom for the next three years and more study resulted in a postgraduate MSc degree from the University of London.
On return to Australia, Dr. Manning became involved in orthodontics and completed the MDSc degree in orthodontics from the University of Sydney in 1971.
The next two years resulted in more study and further experiences in
orthodontics at the Royal Melbourne Dental School. This period of study resulted in a fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgery.
In September 1973, Jacki and Dr. Manning were married and, following a short intensive course of study in California, moved from Melbourne to Rockhampton. For the first six months, orthodontics was practiced in a spare room in Ray Harvey’s Surgery, where Jim Adams now practices dentistry. After six months, the next move was to the lower end of East Street and in 1976, the final move to the current site on Fitzroy Street. In 1994, the branch office in Emerald was completed.
Jacki and Dr. Manning were delighted when their son, Nicholas, could join the practice and already his enthusiasm has seen improved and exciting changes put into place.
Dr. Nicholas Manning
After graduating from the University of Queensland Dental School in 1996, I worked as a general dentist in Yeppoon, Emerald and London
until September 2003. Working in Yeppoon and Emerald was a terrific experience. I learned a great deal during this time, supported by some excellent enthusiastic dentists and made so enjoyable by the friendly genuine patients. Working as a dentist in London helped me appreciate my time in Yeppoon and Emerald.
I moved to Manchester in October 2003 to study orthodontics. While I was happy practicing general dentistry, I had for some time been interested in post-graduate study, and the opportunity to be involved in research for the first time was very appealing. One of the main reasons for choosing orthodontics over the other dental specialties was it would allow me to practice and live in Central Queensland. I grew up in Rockhampton and have always preferred the local people and our lifestyle to the capitol cities.
Since returning to Rocky in October 2003, I married Nadene in May 2004 and our first child, Patrick, was born in February 2005.
